Pokemon GO Type Chart: Weaknesses and Resistances
The types of elements in Pokémon GO are fundamental characteristics for success in combat. We share a table with the weaknesses, resistances, and effectiveness when attacking each component. There are 18 types in total; it is important to know the interaction between them and the multipliers that are applied. Then we detail a list of the weaknesses of each type in Pokémon GO and talk a little about double-type Pokémon. Find out now!
We clarify that immunities no longer exist in Pokémon GO, unlike the main saga games.

The multipliers that apply are:
- Super Effective Against The Pokemon does 1.6x damage to the enemy.
- Ineffective Against: The Pokemon does 0.625x damage to the enemy, or 0.391x if the enemy is very tough.
- Resistant vs: The Pokémon takes 0.625x damage from the enemy, or 0.39x if it is very resistant to the enemy.
- Weak Against: The Pokemon takes 1.6x damage from the enemy.
It is important to learn this table well or to have it at hand. Only then will you know what beats Psychic-type, what is effective against Normal-type, or the weaknesses of Dragon-type Pokémon.
Weaknesses of each type
In this section, we focus only on the weaknesses that each type has in Pokémon GO, in case that is the only thing that interests you. Here we show them to you:
- Steel – Weakness against Fire, Fighting, and Earth.
- Water: Weakness against Electric and Grass.
- Bug: Weakness against Fire, Flying, and Rock.
- Dragon – Weakness against Dragon, Fairy, and Ice.
- Electric – Weakness only against Earth.
- Ghost – Weakness against Dark and Ghost.
- Fire: Weakness against Earth, Rock, and Water.
- Fairy: Weakness against Poison and Steel.
- Ice - Weakness against Fighting, Fire, Rock, and Steel.
- Fighting – Weakness against Fairy, Flying, and Psychic.
- Normal – Weakness only against Fighting.
- Grass: Weakness against Bug, Fire, Flying, Ice, and Poison.
- Psychic: weakness against Bug, Sinister, and Ghost.
- Rock – Weakness against Fighting, Grass, Earth, Steel, and Water.
- Sinister: Weakness against Bug, Fight, and Fairy.
- Earth: Weakness against Grass, Ice, and Water.
- Poison – Weakness against Earth and Psychic.
- Flying – Weakness against Electric, Ice, and Rock.
We want to frame that the types with the highest number of weaknesses are Grass and Rock. They have five guys that they are weak against! Ice followed both, with four types that can deal more damage. On the other hand, Normal and Electric are only weak to Fighting and Ground, respectively.
Multipliers on Double-type Pokémon
Pokémon that are assigned two items instead of one sometimes get multiplier changes. This is a detail to take into account to avoid unexpected surprises. Let's take for example Bulbasaur, a Grass, and Poison-type Pokémon.
If you look at the type table above, both Grass and Poison are Grass-resistant types. For the same reason, Bulbasaur gains double resistance against Grass-types, compared to Pokémon that are only Grass- or Poison-type.
Another aspect to look out for is that depending on the type combination, the resistance and weakness to a specific type can be neutralized. The grass is resistant to Earth, while Poison is vulnerable to it. For this reason, Bulbasaur does not get any multiplier compared to Earth in terms of resistances. That happens several times!
Whenever you have a Dual-type Pokemon, be sure to look at what its resistances and weaknesses are, which ones are neutralized, or which ones are doubled. This is the only way to prepare yourself well for battles against other trainers in Pokémon GO.
