Pokémon GO Special Investigations works like a story mode, presented and guided by Professor Willow. This character entrusts us with a certain series of tasks to fulfill, divided into different phases. As the last objective, in many of these Pokémon GO special missions, we will capture valuable Pokémon!
Of all the missions that have ever existed, there are Special Investigations that are permanent, while others are temporary. In this article, we show you which ones you can always do, regardless of the day of the year. In the end, we will tell you some details about the temporary special missions that Niantic, the developer of Pokémon GO, launches on several occasions.
List of permanent Special Investigations
Here you will find a list of the Special Investigations that you can do at any time of the year. Generally, the requirement to start one of these special missions is to complete the previous one or at least complete a series of tasks in the previous one.
A unique discovery
This is the first Special Research you will do in all of Pokémon GO. It was enabled on March 30, 2018, and its last task is to capture Mew. It consists of a total of 8 stages, with numerous unique rewards after completing each one.

A ripple in time
Available from August 20, 2018, in this Special Investigation, we are in charge of overcoming 8 phases in order to capture Celebi. If you already have it, you will get 50 Celebi Candy as a final reward. You do not need to finish "A Rare Discovery" to start this quest, but you do need to have progressed to the fourth stage.

Let's GO Meltan
This research is perfect for anyone who doesn't play Pokémon Let's Go, as it will allow you to capture a Meltan. On this occasion, the complete mission consists of 9 phases, although it can be short if you plan your routes well. You're going to have to catch and evolve a lot of Pokémon!

A worrying situation

A millennial lethargy
Upon reaching the date of August 20, 2019, Jirachi was enabled for everyone. With this, Niantic brought us a mission made up of 7 phases, with the final task of capturing a Jirachi. If you participated in GO Fest 2019 and got Jirachi in that event, as a final price you will get 10 more candies.

Celebrate 2019
As the name implies, this Special Research is simply a celebration of the success of Pokémon GO. It is quite short since it consists of a single phase made up of 3 tasks of capturing Pokémons. More than a quest, it's a gift from Niantic to all gamers.

Details about temporary Special Investigations
Throughout the year, other types of Special Investigations will appear, which are only available for a certain time. In some cases, the margin of hours and days to complete is somewhat short, so you should be vigilant. In others, however, the duration exceeds the average, as happened with "Startup Investigation" which was active for 2 months.
Of this type of investigation, you should know that there is always a Special Investigation during the celebration of Halloween and GO Fest. On the one hand, from October until November 1, you will have the opportunity to participate in the special Halloween event. On the other hand, after GO Fest, Niantic launches a related Special Research available to everyone!
Finally, from time to time there will be missions in which, in order to participate, you will have to pay for a pass. It was the case of "A colossal discovery". Niantic also creates unique special events, such as Lurking in the Shadows, which kicked off a trilogy of investigations that allowed us to capture Legendary Pokémon.
