How to connect a PS4 controller to PC in two steps

 Depending on the game, it is not always convenient to play on a PC with a keyboard and mouse. Sometimes it is more comfortable to have a controller in your hands, and what better than to use the PS4 controller itself if you have the console. If you're looking for a way to take advantage of your PS4 controller to play on PC, you've come to the right place!

The process is quick and simple since you only have to take two steps. It is not enough to just connect the controller to the PC and that's it, but you must install a program and configure it. If you want to connect a PS4 controller to a PC successfully, follow our tutorial!

Step 1: Download and install the DS4Windows program

DS4Windows software is constantly updated by developers. For this reason, when you access the page, make sure you download the most recent version. After downloading, install the game in any folder you like (but remember where!) and prepare to install the DS4 driver as well.

When you open the program, an option will appear to do that custom installation. The download and installation will be done automatically. If that doesn't happen, you may need to restart your PC and wait a few minutes until the driver is properly installed.

Note: If you have Windows 7 or lower, make sure you also install the 360 drivers.

Step 2: Connect and set up the control

Now that the DS4Windows program and driver are installed, we can connect the PS4 controller to the computer. For this, you will need a USB cable. If all goes well, the DualShock 4 controller will appear in the Controllers window within the program. If not, try restarting the program without unplugging the controller.

Once this is done, the controller should be ready to use on your PC. To configure the buttons, go to the Profiles window, in the same program. In it you will be able to test each button and make sure that the buttons are configured correctly. It is the perfect place to discover if there are faults with your controller.

Of course, keep in mind that not all games are compatible with XBOX 360 controllers. We mention this because the PS4 DualShock 4 controller works as if it were an XBOX 360 controller. Therefore, if the game is not compatible to play with a controller, you will not be able to enjoy it with your PS4 controller.

Use DualShock 4 without any program

There are times that you can use a remote without programs, but it is unusual. To do this, you need to "trick" the computer, making your PS4 controller work as if it were actually an XBOX 360 controller. If you don't want to use a program on your PC, you'll need to use a special USB adapter.

You can find several products on the Internet for this purpose. The most famous is CronusMAX. The drawback is that it can be somewhat difficult to obtain, depending on where I live. It's on Amazon, but sometimes it's too expensive or it's not available. You can try the second-hand market, but that will be at your own risk!
